Can you siphon gas with a garden hose

Most cars today have small fuel-filler openings with spring-loaded flaps inside them to prevent fuel vapors from escaping.

Depending on the stiffness of your hose, you may need to first open the little flap. Your chosen hose diameter will need to fit through the hole, which is roughly cent piece sized. If you do that, everyone will call you an idiot even though they want their phones charged as much as you. You can also use a funnel to get the flap open, or a turkey baster with the bulb removed, or, more ideally, the nozzle from a gas can— if you have one with a removable nozzle.

If so, you may need a friend to hold the flap open with a chopstick. Step Two: Suck gas into the hose. This is the part with the most possibility of danger. This is why a clear hose is handy.

Then rinse your mouth with water. The key to this step is no air pockets in the hose. So, keep your length of hose as short and straight as you safely can. Feed the hose into the tank at least two feet to ensure the hose has reached the bottom of the tank. Allow the slack of the hose to droop down to the floor while you hold the other end above the gas tank. The hose must droop to the floor to allow gravity to force the gas downward. Suck on the other end of the hose to create suction and to get the gas flowing.

Gravity will naturally make the gas flow through the hose to reach the same level as the gas tank. You must hold the hose above the gas tank because that position will keep you from getting a nasty mouthful of gasoline.

To allow the gas to flow from the hose, lower the hose below the gas tank's level. Place the end of the hose in whatever vehicle or machine needs gas. You may have an air leak in the tube somewhere that is preventing the siphon from getting going. Any tube would work, just put one side in the higher container, suck the water through and put the other side of the tube in the lower container.
